A motorcycle regulator rectifier is part of the charging system, converting AC power from the stator into DC power and maintaining a safe voltage of around 14.5 volts.
Failures often result from overheating, poor grounding, or corroded or loose battery connections.
Two common issues occur:
1. Diode burnout, causing battery drain, dim headlights, and weak starts. If voltage drops below 13V, the battery will discharge and the engine may stop.
2. Shunt regulator burnout, which overcharges the battery (voltage above 17V), making headlights overly bright or causing them to blow.
